Room Story: Pinterest Inspired Transformation, Barnet

Client: Private Residence, Barnet, North London Scope: Window treatments for living room, dining room and family room; reupholstery of main living room furniture Materials & Features: Custom velvet sofa reupholstery, tailored pelmets, crisp cotton curtains, bespoke tie-backs, privacy roller blinds.

The Brief

Our clients came to us with a saved Pinterest image and a simple question — can you help us recreate this feeling in our own home?

The image captured exactly what they were looking for: clean lines, rich textures and a harmonious blend of tailored window treatments with plush upholstery. Contemporary, but warm. Stylish, but genuinely liveable for a busy family.

The existing room told a different story. Traditional swag and tails dressed the windows, and the sofas no longer reflected the modern, comfortable feel the family had in mind. The brief was clear — refresh the entire living space with bespoke soft furnishings that felt both elegant and welcoming, without losing the warmth of a home that is actually used and loved.

Design & Materials

Velvet Reupholstery: Working closely with the clients at an in-home design consultation, we selected a luxurious stain-resistant velvet that matched the tone and depth of their Pinterest reference precisely — rich in colour, soft to the touch, and built to stand up to family life. The existing sofas were reupholstered rather than replaced, giving beloved pieces an entirely new presence in the room.

Curtains & Pelmets: The traditional swag and tails were removed in favour of tailored pelmets and crisp cotton curtains with bespoke tie-backs. The result is a cleaner, more architectural window treatment that frames the rooms with a refined silhouette — contemporary without feeling cold.

Roller Blinds: Privacy roller blinds were installed behind the curtains throughout, providing practical light control while keeping the aesthetic minimal and unobtrusive. Style and function working together, as they always should.

Technical Execution

The project began with a thorough in-home consultation, where we assessed light levels across the day, discussed fabric performance and ensured every colour worked in the context of the room's natural daylight. Getting this right at the outset is what makes the finished result feel considered rather than coincidental.

Upholstery work was carried out to a precise standard — the velvet selected, matched and applied to ensure a flawless, even finish across all pieces. For the window treatments, pelmets were fitted level and crisp, curtains were hung with perfect pleat and fall, and roller blinds were aligned to operate smoothly while remaining sleek when not in use.

The Result

A Cohesive, Tailored Space: The new upholstery and window treatments work together as a single considered scheme — exactly the mood the clients had pinned and hoped for. The rooms now feel coordinated and quietly confident, with a bespoke quality that comes from everything being made and fitted specifically for this home.

Modern Functionality: The roller blinds behind the curtains give the family complete control over light and privacy at every time of day, without any compromise on the look of the room.

A Vision Realised: The family were delighted with how faithfully their inspiration translated into reality — a space that is polished and elegant, but entirely comfortable for everyday life.

Conclusion

This Barnet family home is a reminder that the best design briefs often start simply — with a feeling, an image, an instinct about how a room could be. By listening carefully and translating that instinct into bespoke upholstery and window treatments made specifically for this home, we helped the family create exactly the space they had imagined.
