As the days lengthen and the weather warms, there's an undeniable sense of anticipation in the air – spring is on its way, if only it will stop raining! It's time to shake off the winter blues and inject some fresh energy into your home and we thought we would look at some quick and easy yet super effective ways to brighten your spaces.

1) Embrace Lighter Weight Fabrics

We don't mean completely redecorate but one of the easiest ways to give your home a spring/summer makeover is by swapping out heavy, winter fabrics for lighter alternatives. Obviously we would love it if you had summer and winter curtains like our great grandparents used to have (with the big, almost ceremonial seasonal swop overs) but packing away the heavier, chunky knit throws and velvet cushions and replacing them with linens, cottons and lightweight fabrics in lighter tones will change the look of a room completely.

Let Nature In

Nothing says spring like fresh flowers and greenery so let what is blooming outside guide you on colours - whites and purples of hellebores make way for the yellow of daffodil and crocus, swiftly followed by the blue, blue bluebells so bring the beauty of the outdoors inside by incorporating seasonal plants and fresh flowers into your decor. Whether you're a statement potted plant or a simple vase of freshly picked blooms decorator, adding a touch of greenery to your home can instantly lift your spirits and brighten up any room.

Nature is great to look to for fresh and vibrant colours; the yellows will add a bright tone and combined with soft greens, sky blues and blush pinks will all help to bring a touch of that springtime freshness indoors.

Don't limit colour-blasts to cushions and throws but consider changing your artwork to liven up your space and create a cheerful atmosphere.

Don't have a green thumb? No problem! There are plenty of low-maintenance houseplants that are perfect for beginners, such as succulents, spider plants, and peace lilies. Place them on windowsills, coffee tables and shelves to add a natural touch to your home and create a sense of tranquility. Macrame is still around and good for hanging a favourite plant in a corner - especially a trailing variety for added interest.

Refresh Your Space with Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning may not be the most glamorous task, but it's essential for maintaining a bright and welcoming home. Take the opportunity to declutter and organise your space, getting rid of anything you no longer need or use. We're great fans of Marie Kondo's 'Does it bring you joy?' so keep this in mind as you clear the clutter. Clean windows, dust blinds, and vacuum curtains and rugs to let in as much natural light as possible and create a fresh, airy atmosphere.

Don't forget to tackle those often-overlooked areas, such as skirting boards, light fixtures and on top of kitchen cabinets. A thorough deep clean will not only make your home look brighter and more inviting but will also create a healthier environment for you and your family to enjoy; think of it as a work-out when you begin to flag...

Create Outdoor Living Spaces

With the arrival of spring comes the opportunity to spend more time outdoors; the lighter evenings and in anticipation of the warmer weather this is the time to start creating outdoor living spaces where you can relax and entertain al fresco. Whether you have a spacious garden, a small balcony, or a cosy patio, there are plenty of ways to transform your outdoor area into a tranquil retreat.

Invest in comfortable outdoor furniture, such as lounge chairs, dining sets and if you have two handy trees, a hammocks! Consider where the sun travels during the day so you can unwind and relax. Add outdoor rugs, cushions and throws as these are all designed to withstand the extra strong exposure to UVA and UVB light so don't use indoor pieces in full sunshine or they will fade and deteriorate quickly. For added comfort and style and don't forget to incorporate lighting to create a warm and inviting ambience after dark, outdoor lights are not just for Christmas.
