Preparing Your Home for Guests

Preparing Your Home for Guests

As the season of hosting approaches, there’s a certain joy in getting your home ready for visitors; especially when small touches make a big difference. Whether you’re welcoming family for the weekend or simply want to feel a little more festive, here’s how to prepare your home beautifully and effortlessly.

1. Refresh the Everyday Details

Start with the simple things: plump your cushions, gently vacuum upholstery and curtains with a soft brush attachment. Clean  and give window treatments a once-over for dust or marks. Dress curtains back into their correct place if they have moved over time. Tie with a soft clean cloth for 24hours to 'reset'.  Little details like this bring back the ‘newly finished’ feeling.

2. Check Child Safety Devices and Motorised Blinds

Make sure cords and chains are safely secured and child safety devices are in good working order. For motorised blinds, check that batteries in remotes are charged -  it’s a quick fix that avoids frustration later. All blinds have to comply with Child Safety Regulations BS EN 13120. Get in touch if you need help or are concerned about your blinds and tracks in any way.

3. Add Warmth and Light

A few well-placed throws, soft lamps and candles instantly make a space feel inviting. Choose scents that feel seasonal — think cedarwood, fig, or amber — for an extra layer of comfort.

4. A Final Touch

A vase of greenery or a small bouquet in the guest bedroom makes a lovely impression, and costs very little. It’s the kind of thoughtful detail that turns a room into a welcome.

With Christmas approaching, it’s a great moment to gently declutter the rooms guests will use, creating space to breathe and settle in. A few sprigs of fresh foliage or a simple seasonal arrangement can introduce warmth without overwhelming your scheme. If children are visiting, a miniature tree they can decorate, along with a small basket of bedtime books and toys, adds a welcoming, personal touch.
